The Brasserie at The Carlton is the perfect setting to enjoy a meal, freshly prepared in our kitchen, using some of the best local produce around.
We serve breakfast daily, and an informal dinner menu each evening from 6pm. At other times we have a light lounge menu available.
Our ever popular Sunday lunch is served 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Our passion runs through every stage of the food process, from buying fresh local ingredients, in season, to the rituals of preparation and cooking a dish. Once finished, we take pride in delivery & service and take great pleasure in seeing our food enjoyed in the pleasant surroundings of the Brasserie.

The Brasserie Menu
Our freshly prepared breakfast menu is available daily. Join us for a fantastic start to your day, with English and Continental options.
Wake up to a freshly cooked full English breakfast, complemented with plenty of Continental, vegetarian and lighter options. Our hot options feature quality grilled butchers’ sausages, local free-range eggs, thick cut British bacon. Or dive in to our lighter alternatives. like smashed avocado on sourdough, smoked salmon and scrambled egg on thick granary bloomer, or Eggs Benedict.
Pre-order our fillet of natural smoked haddock or grilled proper kippers, maybe create your own two egg omelette made to your order. Our main breakfast buffet offers a little self-service indulgence; a choice of yoghurt, fresh fruit, melon and berries, cereals, thick cut toast and butter croissants. Enjoy with freshly ground filtered coffee, English breakfast or decaffeinated tea, fruit or herbal infusions and a selection of chilled juices. We have gluten free, plant and vegetarian alternatives.

We believe that memorable dining and delicious food should always be part and parcel of the perfect restaurant experience. That’s why when it comes to our Dinner Menu at our in-house restaurant, The Brasserie, we’ve gone all out to bring you a diverse mix of delicious dishes that are sure to whet your appetite with the very first mouthful.
For those who appreciate a more traditional dish, our homemade Scotch Egg, smooth Chicken Liver Parfait, or pressed Chicken Terrine will bring you harmonious blends of succulent meat flavours combined with delicate herbs. Alternatively, if you’re a sucker for seafood, our Thai Fishcake, Mussels, and Crab Avocado Salad are all made with fresh fish landed off local day boats at our Appledore fishmongers, and bring a unique taste of the sea that is sure to delight. Finally, diners in search of earthier flavours can enjoy Melon & Orange, Creamed Mushroom, Avocado & Bacon, or Beetroot & Pea Salad.
In our view, variety really is the spice of life when it comes to the main courses on our Dinner Menu at The Brasserie. From traditional English flavours to worldly culinary delights, our chefs strive to bring you a wide selection of mouth-watering dishes that deliver a taste sensation like no other.
If you’re craving a hearty classic, our famous Fish & Chips, tender Rump Steak, gourmet Beef Burger, or warming Sausage & Mash are all great options that bring a familiar taste of home. Each of these dishes (as well as others on our menu) is made with a selection of quality West Country Meats and tender cuts of Exmoor beef, meaning they are some of the most delicious we offer.
For those in search of bigger and bolder flavours that ooze excitement, our Beef Rendang, Moroccan Tagine, or Katsu Curry will be just the ticket. Bringing you aromatic and spicy tastes from Malaysia, North Africa, and the heart of Asia, these dishes promise to inspire the senses and leave you wanting more. Similarly, our gorgeous Cod, Chicken Supreme, pan-fried Venison, and Duck Duo all pack a punch and combine delicate cuts of fish or meat with freshly-picked crops grown in the heart of the Devon countryside.
Finally, the lighter options on our Dinner Menu include our delicious Loin of Hake, Fresh Mint and Pea Risotto, or savoury Pancake filled with diced chicken and ham, bathed in Cornish cream and gratin.

Our Sunday Lunch (sample menu), always includes a classic roast, and always West Country sirloin with another. The menu extends to include fresh fish, vegetarian and vegan options. Fluffy Yorkshire puddings, homemade gravies and plenty of fresh vegetables complete your lunch. Together with some select and popular dishes from our regular weekday menu to keep you sustained. Our spacious dining room is suitable for couples as much as family get togethers. A choice of at least six starters and six desserts will ensure you have a great choice at every stage of your Sunday Lunch. Put simply, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.
Gluten free choices are always available including home made Yorkshire’s and bread rolls.
Sunday lunch is served from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Breakfast is included in your room rate when staying overnight, or available at £14 per person inclusive.
North Devon’s Larder
Naturally, fish and seafood are key ingredients in our larder. You are guaranteed to enjoy some of the best fresh fish from day boats landed in our own harbour. Add to that, mussels that are picked at low tide in Westward Ho! then cleaned in Instow. All in all a great smorgasbord of local and seasonal ingredients, that are truly sustainable.
Menus adapt to the seasons, so there’s always something new to try whatever time of year you arrive.
Our airy dining room has plenty of space to allow dining in comfort, complemented by our well stocked bar and carefully curated wine list. Have lunch with us and set yourself up perfectly for a countryside walk… or an afternoon armchair snooze!
We love to find new suppliers, whether they’re Devon families who’ve been growing, rearing or selling produce for generations or new, artisan makers of craft food and drink products – of which there are many in the county.
We are lucky to have quality West Country meats from our Muddiford butcher, and Exmoor beef from Chris Lerwill’s Exmoor farm. Choice game is delivered daily from MC Kelly, well known for their regional cuts. Our greengrocers offer locally picked crops, many from the Great Field in Braunton, as well as access to the local market in nearby Bristol.

My parents and I visited the Carlton brasserie for a Sunday roast as part of my birthday celebration. The staff were attentive, polite and friendly. The food was excellent, the portions were perfect with flavoursome additional trimmings with our roasts. The desserts were very impressive and there was a great range of choice on the menu. We will certainly be coming back again.
