Afternoon Tea is a quintessential English treat. Being introduced to the good folk of England by Anna, the peckish Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. Today you can join us at The Carlton for a delicious homemade afternoon tea with the classic Devonshire element, where the cream goes on first, of course. And just like the Duchess you will leave satisfied and full with our Afternoon Tea offer. £17.50 per person.
Our Vegan Afternoon Tea (sample menu) menu can be adapted to cater for gluten free/coeliac guests. In fact, you are very welcome to let us know of any special dietary requests when you book and we will do our best to accommodate this into your Afternoon Tea. £19.50 per person.
Spacious Surroundings
On warm days our French doors are open, and you can take Afternoon Tea in our airy Brasserie or one of our lounge areas. You can also choose to have Tea on our terrace, weather permitting, or our library for a cosier afternoon tea experience.
Open to Non-Residents
The Carlton’s Afternoon Tea is served to both in house and external guests. If you’re thinking of making your tea part of a group event, family celebration, baby shower or hen party, let us know and we can adapt our menu to suit. We can accommodate groups of up to 60 for a great Afternoon Tea experience.
Tea Times
Our Afternoon Tea is served daily, except Sunday, from 3pm. To make your reservation, please call us on 01271 862446 or email dine@ilfracombecarlton.co.uk.
Kindly please note, we require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for our classic tea and 72 hours for our vegan menu. Sorry, we ‘re unable to accept walk in or on the day reservations.
Gluten-Free Dining
We serve gluten free options at all meal times. Because we cook from scratch it is easy to meet individual dietary requests including gluten free and coeliac needs. Let us know beforehand and we’ll ensure you can experience the majority of our menu.
Spacious Ambience
Enjoy Afternoon Tea in our airy Brasserie dining room which has plenty of space, or our cosy Library room. Dining in comfort, complemented by our well stocked bar and carefully curated wine list. Or relaxin our more intimate library or weather permitting enjoy tea on our mini terrace.
Ladies that get together once a month went for afternoon high tea at the Carlton. Wow what a fantastic selection of sandwiches cakes, scones and deserts. All served in a private cosy room. So much food and such a great selection we had to take the remainder home in doggy bags. Thank you Eliot.
The Brasserie
Our seasonal menus use the freshest local produce from North Devon’s natural larder. Menus adapt to the seasons, so there’s always something new to excite your tastebuds!
