The Town
Ilfracombe is an ideal place for a long holiday or a short break.
North Devon's most special seaside resort offers you a variety of options of
how to spend your time. Secluded coves hidden away along the coastline to discover,
rock pools to explore, scenic coastal walks and not to forget the famous harbour,
with its ever changing views of pleasure yachts and fishing boats.
Ilfracombe High Street has an abundance of small shops, to the
east end you will find the harbour which is overlooked by Lantern Hill with
its 14th Century Chapel and Lighthouse. Also look out for the local Art Exhibition,
Flower Festival, Open Bowls Tournament and Life Boat Day. During summer, Ilfracombe's
houses, streets, hotels and parks become awash with floral displays, winning
many yearly awards in the Britian in Bloom competitions.
The local community is renowned for participating in the events
that take place within Ilfracombe. Victorian week starts with Church Trinity
Fayre, and for a week, the locals step back in time transforming the streets
with costumes and horse drawn vehicles. The festivities ending with a grand
Victorian Ball.
The New Landmark Theatre with its unique conical towers offers
a full entertainment programme for theatrical events along with concerts and
exhibitions. The theatre is home to a comfortable cinema and also has a bar
and catering facilities.
If you fancy a walk, step onto the South West
coastal path behind the Ilfracombe Carlton, turning left on the
coastal footpath towards Morte Point taking you over the Seven Sisters
towards Lee Bay on route. There is beautiful scenery to admire and
on a clear day you can capture views of Lundy Island and the Gower
Peninsular.
