Clay Shooting:
The Carlton Hotel is the ideal place to base yourself for a shooting break. The area has some of the best shooting grounds in Devon which are with in a short drive of the hotel. The Carlton with its Police approved Gun Room with individual gun cupboards makes this a great place to base your Break. To book gun safes, please inform the Receptionist at time of booking of your requirements and how many guns you are bringing. We will set you up in the morning with a hearty Breakfast have a days shooting and then return to the hotel and relax in the bar and re-live the day.

The South West Shooting School is situated in an idyllic wooded valley in the heart of the glorious Devon countryside a few miles from Ilfracombe, reached by roads running along the ridge of North Devon with stunning views, north across the Bristol Channel to Wales and south to Dartmoor. The stands are ideally positioned facing down sun; also whilst the guns are cosily out of the wind in the valley the clays are flying in the wind! The Shooting School must be without equal in the country for the variety of targets that can be presented.

 Golf
Ilfracombe is a great base for your golfing trip to North Devon
Whether you are a scratch Golfer or just enjoy walking around the course looking for your ball. There are some very good golf courses in North Devon. Ilfracombe and Willingcott Valley are only a few minutes Drive from the Carlton Hotel.
We have arranged some fantastic discounts at these two courses for you. If you should wish to travel a little further others like Saunton, Portmore, and The Royal North Devon
It couldn't be easier we provide your accommodation, early breakfast can be arranged for early tee times, you select the golf course and remember our ‘19th Hole’ will be open just when you need it.
 Walking
There are some breathtaking walks just from our front door. Try the Heritage Coast walk or a breath taking walk along the coast to Lee Bay And if you want more go a little further to Morte Point. Within a short drive you can be in Exmoor National Park with its High Peaks, Waterfalls and great coastal scenery where the moor really does meet the sea.
Cycling
There are many cycle paths in North Devon whether you want to cycle on the moors or take an easy pedal along the Tarka Trail (cycle hire is available at Braunton Barnstaple and Fremington Quay). If you are bringing your own bikes, please let us know when booking and we will confirm safe storage arrangements.
